This week's Sunday Six come from a walk at the Roan Mountain Spring Naturalist's Rally on Sunday afternoon along a section of the Appalachian Trail in search of an uncommon wildflower called
Gaywings.

The small hole in the center of the photograph under the dry grass, beside the rock, above the young
Jewelweed plants leads to a Dark-eyed Junco's nest. We never would have found the nest hole if the bird had not flown just before we walked down the trail.

Almost immediately we discovered patches of this pretty little wild flower growing along the trail sides. You can see where it gets it's name-part of the blossom does looks like a set of wings.

Here is a cheery little Buttercup.

We saw lots of Painted
Trillium's.

This more open section of the Appalachian Trail made me want to see what lay ahead.
