February 15, 2009 Sunday Recap

On Saturday night, February 14 our church social committee hosted a Valentine party for all members, friends, and neighbors---not just for "sweethearts". We covered the overhead lights with red tissue paper to give it a Valentine-ish effect. This explains the lighting in this week's Sunday Six.

My daughter's camera is ready for action.

This place card holder (recipe card holder) was crafted by one of our neighbors using an old dinner fork. He bends two tines back to form the stand and the other two tines forward and up to form the holder.
My 86-year-old mother wrote out Bible verses from I Corinthians 13 , the love chapter, for each place setting. (She still has great handwriting.) Everyone got to take their fork home with them at the evening's end.

Real glass stemware waits on the counter to be carried to individual place settings.
Somehow, the same fruit juice that we serve at weekly potlucks tastes a little better in fancy glasses instead our usual plastic cups!

My friend, and social committee leader, made this cake for the party.
Yes, it was yummy!

Here she is cutting the cake.

Everyone got to take home a prize. This is yellow primrose came home with me.

February 8, 2009 Sunday Recap

Sparkles and shadows on the snow

This is one of the picnic shelters in the park near the river behind the post office.
Homes used to stand here before the flood of 1998 when, if they were not swept away, they were damaged beyond repair. There is now a community park on this site, with a quarter-mile track, picnic shelters and a baseball diamond.

My daughter carried this baby goat around on her shoulders

... and held this one like a baby.

Here is another baby

and finally a close-up of another baby.

A neighbor lady has goats and three or four moms had their kids within hours of each other. I don't remember how old these babies are, but they are less than four days old.
