February 1, 2009 Sunday New Six

Our family went for a short walk along the Appalachian Trail starting at Carver's Gap on the Tennessee-North Carolina state line and climbed to Round Bald. It was late in the afternoon so we did not have time to walk very far. These are some shadows created by one of the trees along the trail that I found interesting.

My daughter looks through her binoculars at the valleys in Tennessee from atop Round Bald.

This is a valley in North Carolina seen from atop Round Bald.

From this pull-off my daughter is photographing our valley far below. Even without binoculars we can pick out our neighbors homes, so it's amazing what we can see with our binoculars. Our home is hidden by trees from this spot.

This ice formation was across the road from our parking spot. The water from springs constantly flowing over the rocks freeze in winter creating great masses of ice.

My younger daughter looks out at me from this ice "cave" which is part of the ice formation.
