Sunday New Six

I like the way the trees surrounding the pond create shadows on the ice.

Interesting pattern of weeds under the ice on the pond

Our family went for a short walk along the Appalachian Trail this afternoon. This arrow-shaped rock seems to point the way after the trail crosses Highway 19E near the North Carolina-Tennessee state line.

Sunday Recap Six

This small tree grew happily in the campground by Watauga Dam.

The local beaver family "cut" it down.

These nearby Canada Geese are not impressed with the beaver's handiwork.

This is a view of the mountains surrounding Watauga Lake. I took the photo from inside the observation room which has glass on three sides. I was facing the large evergreen tree, the tree in silhouette is reflected from one of the other windows.

Housefly outdoors in January? It must be insane!

Sunday Recap Six

This photo is quite blurry and makes the rainy, dreary evening seem even more gloomy. It was taken from the porch of the cabin where our family stayed on their recent visit. The path leads to the parking lot.

The same path looks a bit different a day and a half later after a little snow.

Snow in the forest

This snowman stands guard at a cabin in Roan Mountain State Park.

Here is a snow heart made by my daughter.

I took a short walk this afternoon between rain showers and snow flurries and discovered that the pond had overflowed it's banks. With all the rain and melted snow we have had lately, I'm not surprised.

Sunday Recap Six

Rhododendron

The colder the temperature, the more tightly the leaves hug the stem.

This is a section of the Appalachian Trail between Highway 19-E and the first shelter heading toward Carver's Gap. Tennessee

This interesting tree grows beside the Appalachian Trail.

My friend's husband removed this tree from our church yard because the roots were growing into the driveway. Meanwhile, in the fellowship hall we got ready for her birthday party.

My younger daughter's dog, Murdock, always looks sad for the camera.

My older daughter's dog, Lilly, can't be still long enough to pose for a picture.
